Erik C. Harris is currently Vice President of Marketing for InterMune, Inc.
Prior to joining Elan in 2007, Mr. Harris worked in numerous senior marketing and sales management positions within the BioOncology Division of Genentech from 2003 – 2007. He began his career in the healthcare industry with Bristol-Myers Squibb by serving as a product manager within the Immunology Marketing Division prior to becoming a special project manager on a special initiative for HIV/AIDS in five countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. He then went on to become a territory business manager within the Cardiovascular and Metabolics Sales Division.
Mr. Harris served on active duty in the Navy from 1991 – 1999. During that time, he earned two Air Medals as Mission Commander of the Navy’s primary maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft while completing operational deployments in the Caribbean, North Atlantic and Mediterranean areas. He later earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal while serving as Congressional Fellow / Intern for the Secretary of Defense.
Born and raised in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, he graduated from Saint John’s College High School with Honors in 1987. He entered the United States Naval Academy and graduated with Merit in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Operational Analysis). While a leader within the Brigade of Midshipmen, he was Co-Captain of the varsity basketball team and an All-Conference Performer. He was also a recipient of the Rear Admiral Kenneth L. Shugart Award for Academic and Athletic Leadership and the Rear Admiral R. F. Marryott Basketball Award. In 2003, he earned his MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
Erik remains active in the community and is an avid sports fan. He resides in Oakland, CA with his wife and twin children (daughter and son).
