Greg Durst Bio

Greg Durst is a member of the investment team at Horizon Equity, a private equity firm working in South Africa since 1992. Since his arrival in late 2008, Greg’s keys responsibilities at Horizon Equity have been fund raising and investor relations.

Greg started his career in New York in 1990 at the Chase Manhattan Bank where he was a part of the Global Energy Corporate Finance Group. From 1993-1996 he was the Assistant Vice President at Groupe Paribas, for the Paribas Capital Markets Syndications Group, responsible for North American loan origination, structuring and sales. While at Paribas, Greg specialized in leveraged buy-outs in the energy, media and private equity sectors. In addition, Greg spent four years at Dimension Data where was a member of their Global Key Talent Group and South Africa Leadership Forum. As senior management at Dimension Data, he was Managing Director of the joint venture with Tata Consultancy Services of India.

Greg is a graduate of Harvard Business School where he was the publisher of The Harbus News Corporation, the on-campus media group. Additionally he co-founded the Africa Business Club and performed in the HBS Show. He received his undergraduate degree in business administration from Georgetown University, where he received several distinctions for his academic excellence as well as contributions to the university community. Greg was Jack the Bulldog, the Georgetown University Mascot from 1987 to 1990. From 1990-1996 Greg was on the board of directors of the University Community Soup Kitchen, overseeing budgeting for and administration for a New York City soup kitchen.

Greg is a three-time New York City Marathon finisher, a two-time Two Oceans Marathon competitor and has completed both the Boston and London Marathons. Greg is married to Heather Farquharson and has two daughters, Hannah and Katie.
